How to Measure Your Neck

Neck size matters most for formal and collared shirts, where a snug or loose collar is immediately noticeable.

Steps

1. Wrap the tape around the base of your neck, where a shirt collar would naturally sit.
2. Slide one or two fingers between the tape and your neck — this extra space is what makes a collar comfortable rather than choking.
3. Read the measurement at that slightly loose fit, not pulled tight.

Why the finger-gap matters

A collar measured perfectly snug with no ease will feel tight once buttoned and worn for a few hours. The finger-gap method is the standard tailors use for a reason.
